The JEMJRSP is a solid body electric guitar introduced by Ibanez in late 2017. It is a signature model of American guitarist Steve Vai and part of Vai’s JEM series. It is a special edition of the standard white JEMJR.
As with all JEM models the body features Vai’s signature monkey grip on the upper body and lion’s claw rout behind the tremolo. Differences from the standard JEM Jr. are limited to the pickups, and pickguard and finish colors.
The JEMJRSP features mahogany body bolted to a maple Wizard III neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with white Tree of Life vine inlays. Components include pink Ibanez Infinity pickups with a pair of humbuckers flanking a single-coil, a double locking tremolo bridge, a locking nut and an angled output jack.
For 2018 the rosewood fretboard was replaced with jatoba.
The RG450DX is essentially the same guitar minus the monkey grip, lion’s claw routing and angled barrel jack and with different fretboard inlays.
Steve Vai’s signature guitars have become almost as iconic as the player himself, and now that mojo is more attainable than ever with the Ibanez JEMJRSP Steve Vai Signature. From the acrylic “Tree of Life” inlay to the instantly recognizable “monkey grip” handle, there’s no doubt where the JEMJRSP came from. For tonal tenacity, you get two Infinity humbuckers and one Infinity single-coil pickup complete with five-way switching. Factor in the double-locking tremolo bridge, and the JEMJRSP is ready to wail.
Effortless playability, with the fastest-playing neck in the business
One of Ibanez’s fastest necks to date, the Wizard III neck on the JEMJRSP Steve Vai Signature is an absolute pleasure to play. This slim and super-comfortable neck lets you pull off lightning-fast runs and arpeggios with ease, but still gives you the substance you need for grabbing chords when you need to. From the first time you put your hands on the JEMJRSP’s Wizard III neck, you’ll know you’ve got a guitar that was built with performance in mind.
A trio of Infinity pickups gives you massive tonal range
The H/S/H configuration has been a long-time favorite among tone-seekers, which led to the trio of killer Infinity pickups loaded in the JEMJRSP Steve Vai Signature. The neck position ceramic humbucker is voiced for warmer, richer tone, while the Alnico V bridge humbucker is a brilliant lead pickup: vibrant, yet snarling with an enhanced midrange output when you push it. In between, you get a high-output single-coil that serves up traditional spank ‘n’ sparkle on its own and plays nice with the humbuckers in blade positions two and four. If you’re after maximum tonal tenacity, then the JEMJRSP will give your amplifier what you need.
